The article presents the discussion on Metformin being a biguanide derived from the plant Galega officinalis. Topics include Metformin influencing AMP-activated protein kinase and the fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase pathway leading to a decrease in the AMP/ATP ratio and reducing the energy available for neoglycogenesis; and an increment in intestinal glucose expenditure and an increase in the secretion of GI incretins. |
