At a private northeastern university, 2,984 students responded to surveys in the fall and spring of the 2011-2012 academic year for the purpose of determining the factors related to the alcohol consumption of student athletes and nonathletes. After controlling for living situation, unsafe driving resulting from alcohol use was higher for the students attending two-year colleges or vocational/technical institutions than for four-year college students and noncollege attendees. At a large southeastern university, 353 African American students and 1,236 White students responded to the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale and a measure of the illicit use of prescription stimulants (IUPS). Compared to the White students, the African American students reported less IUPS use and ADHD symptoms and perceived lower benefits from IUPS and higher social risk. [Extracted from the article] |
