Abstrakt: Water deficit and pest insects can substantially affect plant productivity and chemical composition and the interactions between these stresses deserve more attention. The purpose of present research was to study the effect of water deficit and spider mites (Tetranychus atlanticus) on productivity and chemical composition of soybeans as well as the possibility for using Confidor 70 WG to decrease the negative effect of stresses. The pot experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions and included 3 factors: factor A − mode of irrigation (water deficit and irrigation), factor B − mites (presence or absence of mites) and factor C − imidacloprid (with and without imidacloprid treatment). The results showed that spider mites and water deficit, imposed during seed filling stage, affected negatively productivity and some of productivity components in soybeans. Under the experimental conditions, plants ripen earlier and had significantly less height (19.2%), mass of 1000 seeds (43.6%) and seed productivity (46.9%). The effect of water deficit and mites on the seed chemical composition was considerably less pronounced than on productivity. Тhe action of the two factors was diversely: water deficit contributed to a decrease in protein content, and mites – for its increase. The comparing of negative consequences of the mites in terms of both modes of irrigation showed that they were more pronounced under water deficit than in irrigation. Treatment with Confidor 70 WG had a positive effect on the stressed plants and increased the plant height and mass of 1000 seeds. The effect of Confidor treatment is encouraging, but insufficient, and can probably be increased by several times treatments and/or treatment in the early stages of plant development.
