Abstrakt: To the Editor, A 46-year-old man with a medical history of tobacco abuse was admitted to our community hospital with severe persistent epigastric pain and profuse sweating for the past 8 h. It should be noted, however, that mortality rate may reach 20-50% in patients with descending mediastinitis as a complication, up to 40% in those with cavernous sinus thrombosis, and up to 40% in patients with carotid artery erosion [[5]].
