Academician Todor Nikolov is the most outstanding Bulgarian geologist of the last decades. His contributions in the geosciences cover a vast field of paleontology and stratigraphy with emphasis on the Late Jurassic and Early Cretaceous of the Mediterranean realm. As University teacher, editor and reviewer, he has been instrumental in the development of Bulgarian higher education, the opening of the Bulgarian geosciences to the world, and the further establishment of the University of Sofia "St. Kliment Ohridski" and of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences as leading scientific centers of European importance. Prof. Nikolov left us at the patriarchal age of ninety but will remain an example for all Bulgarian geoscientists with his boiling energy and dedication to Science. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
