The performance indicators of locomotives largely depend on what proportion of the operation takes place in modes close to the nominal. The use of asynchronous drive motors on electric locomotives allows operation with an efficiency in the range of the nominal value. With an even number of phases, it becomes possible to use individual power supply of the phase windings and, under equal conditions, the phase voltage will be 2,100 V, which leads to a decrease in the phase current.
