The motivation of Peterek's work was therefore to investigate the use of less toxic solvents and to identify the challenges and opportunities of a process change. Overall, Peterek's work explains the opportunities and challenges of the polyacrylonitrile market and highlights innovative and creative solutions for sustainable, safe and cost-efficient textile and carbon fiber production that meets current political and societal demands. ITA scientist Dr. Stefan Peterek, scientist at the Institut für Textiltechnik at the RWTH Aachen University (ITA), Aachen/Germany, was awarded the Paul Schlack Prize 2021 at the 60th Dornbirn Global Fiber Congress for his dissertation "Cost-efficient wet spinning of polyacrylonitrile fibers with alternative solvents".
