This study explores the idea of "vocal cross-training" in singing pedagogy. The concept of vocal cross-training is explored and given historical context within the larger frame of singing performance and teaching in Europe and the United States. Using qualitative interviews, this study investigates how vocal cross-training could fill a contemporary need in training particularly in university conservatories. The data suggests that institutions of higher learning should more fully recognize that students can be taught multiple singing styles healthily, enabling them to become more marketable performers and teachers.
