This article focuses on how Eduardo Liendo's El mago de la cara de vidrio (1973) simultaneously represents the attribution of full agency to the television and the total dispossession of the viewer's agency, while examining the ambivalence behind the opposition between print and audiovisual culture that is hyperbolically evoked in the narrative. This paper puts the literary analysis in dialogue with critical ideas of communication and media theory to explore one intriguing representation of television in Latin American literature.
