Abstrakt: South Sumatera Basin has been thoroughly explored and was one of the first discoveries that took place circa the 1870s to the 1890s. The infamous source rock, the Talang Akar Formation (TAF), has also been deeply evaluated in its hydrocarbon geochemistry contents. Numerous samples were analyzed; most of the results are used to build burial history and maturity models. Numbers of research to understand the sequence of TAF, yet the related study using hydrocarbon geochemistry was rarely conducted; moreover there was none about it in Jabung Block. The study aims to identify any shifting of the depositional environment within TAF based on the kerogen type in Jabung Block. The method is by projecting rock eval analysis parameter on the Hydrogen Index vs. Tmax cross plot, divided into seven depth intervals; steranes and isoprenoids plottings. The kerogen type of Talang Akar Formation of research area gradually changing upwards from type III to type II and III, where there were no longer type III found above 8,200 feet. Despite the kerogen type changing, the other geochemical data stated that the depositional environment was the same within the marginal depositional environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
