Abstrakt: This article focuses on the rheumatology in Sub-Saharan Africa. Some rheumatic diseases once common in the west remain prevalent in Africa, for example rheumatic fever and tuberculosis of bone and joint. Rheumatic fever will remain where poverty and overcrowding exist. In many regions of sub-Saharan Africa the incidence of bone and joint tuberculosis has risen in parallel with the rising prevalence of HIV-related pulmonary tuberculosis. HIV-positive patients respond poorly to chemotherapy and are susceptible to infectious complications at fracture, operation and implant sites.
