Abstrakt: The article provides data on the use of exhausted power sources (the batteries) in the metallurgical industry, particularly for the synthetic cast iron production. The possibility of their use as a carburizing additive in the composition of the charge is considered. The chemical composition of exhausted power sources, slag, control and experimental heats are shown. A comparison of the results of carburizing with foundry coke and exhausted power sources was carried out. The use of waste batteries as carburizing components for the smelting of synthetic iron has shown good prospects and technological advantages. Usage of exhausted power sources for smelting of synthetic iron has benefits in form of increase manganese and copper content in the composition of synthetic iron with simultaneous decrease in the sulfur content. It has been established that exhausted manganese-zinc chemical power sources are valuable metallurgical raw materials for the smelting of high-quality cast irons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
