Validation of HPGe efficiency modeling by MCNP5 for volume source.

Abstrakt: Validation of HPGe efficiency modeling by MCNP5 for volume source has been carried out in this study. Monte Carlo code is commonly used to estimate the detector efficiency replacing standard radioactive source. In this work, validation of HPGe efficiency was performed by comparing the result of MCNP modeling with the measurement data from two different types of sample, which are point-like source and liquid source. The germanium crystal (dead layer) was optimized correspond to relative efficiency as well as absolute efficiency of a point standard source Co-60 and Eu-152 obtained by experiment. The modeling validation was carried out by using the standard volume source, which is a liquid source containing Eu-152 radioactive material. The result shows that the discrepancy for both point source as well as liquid source are not larger than 7%. It means that the modeling using the MCNP5 code is still satisfying the experiment data. However, for the future work, the validation of this model using another type of standard sources, such as soil source and charcoal source containing standard radioactive material is absolutely needed.
