Abstrakt: Hydroxyapatite-Collagen-Chitosan Composite as a scaffold showed good biocompatibility and no evidence of cytotoxicity in bone regeneration. However, the stability study in the bone healing process remains unclear. The goal of this study was to evaluate the stability of Hydroxyapatite-Collagen-Chitosan Composite in bone by labeling with Scandium-46. The Scandium-46 labeled Hydroxyapatite-Collagen-Chitosan Composite was implanted in the drilled bone of a rat. The biodistribution studies were performed at 7 days, 2, and 3 months after implantation by dissecting and counting the radioactivity of the interest organs. The results expressed as percentages of radioactivity per gram of organ (%ID/g). Our study showed the Scandium-46 labeled Hydroxyapatite-Collagen-Chitosan Composite was stable in implanted site of bone until 3 months without spreading to the other organs. Our results suggest the Hydroxyapatite-Collagen-Chitosan Composite is the good material for bone implants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
