Examine the febrile responses of goldfish Carassius auratus to Aeromonas hydrophila and to Escherichia coli endotoxin. Survey of literature pertaining to the behavioral fever exhibited by fishes exposed to the gram-negative bacterial disease; Determination of mean preferred temperature of fishes injected intraperitoneally with either sterile pyrogen-free saline, live Aeromonas hydrophila cells or purified Escherichia coli endotoxin; Observations on the ability of the polysaccharide endotoxin present in the cell wall of gram-negative bacteria in inducing fever in infected animals. |
