The neurobiologic basis for autism is not well understood. Incontrast, there have been several recent discoveries into the geneticsof generalized epilepsy with febrile seizures plus, a group of epilepsysyndromes characterized by multiple seizure phenotypes. Here we describea family with generalized epilepsy with febrile seizures plus andvariably expressed autism spectrum disorder that does not show linkageto any of the four known generalized epilepsy with febrile seizures plusloci A relationship between these two disorders has not previously beendescribed.
