The trend towards increasing customisation of products requires individual cargo carriers for logistics. Due to the few manufacturing constrains, Additive Manufacturing (AM) is suitable for automated load carrier production. An automated process call for an automated carrier shape generation taking into account application and manufacturing restrictions. The presented algorithm is based on a dexel structure, whereby undercuts are excluded from the beginning. Large product sizes involve big area additive manufacturing (BAAM), including high machine costs and material dosing problems. To reduce costs, a novel BAAM design with a heated hose is proposed and a prototype is generated and manufactured. An accuracy evaluation shows the BAMM system's suitability for the production of cargo carriers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
