Abstrakt: Wetting of ZrB2 substrate with NiCrBSiC self-fluxing alloy was studied by the sessile drop technique in a vacuum environment at 1100 °C. The structure and composition of the interface and the drop regions were investigated using scanning electron microscope, equipped with energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). It was found that NiCrBSiC alloy wets the ZrB2 substrate forming a final contact angle of 42°. Dissolution of ZrB2 in the molten drop and formation of new phases, such as Zr2Ni21B6, CrB, Ni3Si, and Ni3B, have been found to occur both at the interface and in the drop regions in the ZrB2-NiCrBSiC system.
