Abstrakt: This article cites a study on a 52-year-old woman with perineal allergic contact dermatitis due to tetracaine in a urological lubricant. Tetracaine hydrochloride is a local anaesthetic derived from benzoic acid often used to treat pruritus ani, haemorrhoids or pruritus vulvae. Although lubricant ointments are widely used in urology, allergic contact dermatitis caused by these products, as in our case, is rare. Besides, positivity to tetracaine hydrochloride was found in only 1 case of 45 women with vulvar problems and 1 or more allergic reactions to patch testing, medicaments being the major source of allergens in these patients.
