Background: The incidences of umbilical hernias and uterine fibroids during pregnancy are quite rare, and a uterine fibroid incarcerated within an umbilical hernia is even more rare. Case: A 39-year-old Hispanic woman in her 22nd gestational week of pregnancy presented with an incarcerated umbilical hernia. She was operated on as an emergency case. This involved surgical removal of the pedunculated fibroid and repair of the hernial defect. Results: No complications were seen during this patient's postoperative time period for the patient or the fetus. Conclusions: Clinical suspicion, a rapid diagnosis, and proper surgical management of this rare condition can lead to a positive outcome. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
