Four central city Catholic parishes developed a collaborative social ministry organization to respond to the needs of their impoverished community. This case study describes how the project was developed and how the parishes continue to expand the collaborative model. Key elements of this successful endeavor include widespread parish volunteer participation in activities and in policymaking, and a four-dimensional model of ministry which works to integrate direct services, community education, community development, and social action. The collaborative efforts have promoted lay leadership and expanded vision of Christian community among the parishes and into the surrounding neighborhoods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
