Rising environmental requirements for internal combustion engines are forcing researchers to look for new opportunities for the used fuels. One of the important research topics that are relevant is the use of gaseous fuels in diesel engines. The present study examines the characteristic parameters of the combustion process, indicators and environmental performance of such high-speed diesel engines operating with added LPG or CNG. Five phases of the combustion process in a diesel engine with volumetric mixing are defined. The object of experimental research is a high-speed diesel engine 2.0D Perkins. To establish the dependences of combustion process quality and specifics on the type of hydrocarbon gas added as fuel, the load characteristics at maximum torque with standard diesel fuel, with diesel fuel and LPG additive, and with diesel fuel and CNG additive are taken. The use of CNG increases NOx, which can be reduced by subsequent reactions (SCR). The maximum rate of pressure increase is lower when CNG is used. The same applies to the maximum rate of heat loss. A smoother working process is observed when CNG is used. In general, the completeness of combustion is higher during the working process when gaseous fuel is added. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
