Abstrakt: Objective: In recent years, plant extracts have been considered as potential sunscreen assets inferable from their antioxidant activity just as ability to assimilate ultraviolet (UV) rays. The aim of the current work is to examine the sun protection factor (SPF) activity of different extracts of Neolamarckia cadamba leaves. Chemical - based sunscreens give protection against the sun's beams, specifically, UV radiation. Sometimes, exposure to these synthetic compounds prompts hypersensitivities to the skin. The most ideal approach to shield skin from chemical and photoallergies' is to utilize plant-based creams and lotions. Methods: Petroleum Ether, Alcohol and aqueous extracts of Neolamarckia cadamba leaves were tested for their sun protection factor (SPF) using Mansur formula from 290 to 320 nm. Results: The calculated values of SPF were fallen in the range of 1.168 - 3.568. Among the three extracts used in this study, alcohol extract of Neolamarckia cadamba showed highest SPF activity than the other two extracts. This might be the result of pro-oxidant than antioxidant action of these compounds. Conclusions: This finding suggests that the extracts can be considered to create photoprotective formulation in different combinations and proportions, which will provide an additive or synergetic effect.
