Abstrakt: The article focuses on the possible source for the 1601 poem "The Phoenix and the Turtle" by William Shakespeare. It describes the second part of the poem as consisting of five heptasyllabic trochaic tetrameter tercets. Poet Nicholas Breton is identified as the first person to introduce the metre in his pastoral poem "A Report Song in a Dream, Between a Shepheard and His Nymph." It cites the possibility that Shakespeare borrowed the triplet stanza from Breton.
