Drucker conceptualised the Practice of Management as intimately connected to a new version of man - the Industrial Man (1942) - putting an end to the Economic Man (1939). It is this reframing and the scope for management to be understood as a distinct form of work which also inspired Drucker to conceive of the 'Manager' as an integral part of making management possible. In this framing a 'Manager' was not only an efficient executive, but also a professional, an entrepreneur, an innovator, a leader - a catalyst for progress. Despite Drucker's powerful framing of Management and Managers' receptivity alone has not proven enough to address the very 'inability of capitalism to satisfy the criteria of economic performance and its moral failure' (Flaherty, 1999: 23) which Drucker intended to see addressed through a 'functioning society'. This raises not only the need for, but also the practical use of reflexivity to explore how management, managers and the future of work, corporations and leadership can be envisioned afresh, placing back the man and hu-man-ity into 'Man-Agement' (Antonacopoulou, 2014; 2015) and redefining who managers ('Man-Agers') are. Such a repositioning begs not only reassessing if a reflexive turn (Weick, 1999) has taken place, but what will it take for reflexivity to support resilience and reliability in future management practices given the variety of genres of reflexivity (Latour, 1988). This highlights the urgency to revisit what reflexivity actually is when practiced which this symposium will address through new empirical findings bringing the perspectives of junior and senior academics as well as practitioners to advance this agenda.
