Abstrakt: Research framework: The Banque-mixte foster families welcome children with a view to adopting them. Children placed in this type of resource are generally between zero and two years of age and considered to be at high risk of abandonment, but they are not necessarily adoptable at the time of placement, and most of them continue to have occasional contact with their original parents. Objectives: This study sheds light on the challenges posed by the dual family affiliation of the child for foster parents. It aims to better understand how foster parents negotiate this dual family affiliation during the placement of the child and throughout the process leading to its adoption. Methodology: To meet these objectives, thirty-one semi-structured interviews were conducted with Banque-mixte foster parents in three regions of Quebec. The parents were interviewed twice, the first time in the year following the start of the placement and a second time eighteen months later. Results: The results of the study revolve around four main themes: 1) the perception of foster parents vis-à-vis the parents of origin; 2) the fears and apprehensions experienced in connection with the custody of the child; 3) issues of parental designation and designation; 4) the role of social workers in contacts between the two families. Conclusions: The family affiliation and family relationships of children placed in a Banque-mixte family are based on a balance, the fragility of which is partly explained by the distinct and sometimes contradictory intentions of the foster and original parents, but also by other factors such as the vulnerability of the parents of origin, the profile of the children in care and the variability of the practices of social workers. Contribution: The placement in mixed banking remains little studied in Quebec. This study provides a better understanding of the various issues underlying this type of investment in terms of dynamics and family relationships. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
