Mercury in River Water and Sediments in Some Rivers near Dunkwa-On-Offin, an Alluvial Goldmine, Ghana.

Abstrakt: The article presents a study to determine how mercury is distributed in Ghana. The study reports only levels of mercury in river water and river sediments at Dunkwa-On-Offin, an alluvial goldmine in Ghana and its environment. Results of the study revealed that with a few exceptions Accra-Town, Centre of Dunkwa-On-Offin had the highest amount of mercury in the water. Levels of mercury in the Offin may be due to dredge mining and indigenous mining activities of amalgamation along the river. The mercury content in sediment in the River Offin was highest at Presentase instea of Accra town.
