The effect of the treatment with nitrates on growth and photosynthesis for tomato plants(Lycopersicon esculentum)is presented. Tomato plants were grown in pots and treated with solution of nitrates. The experiments were carried out twice in a greenhouse of the University. Measurements for leaves number, height of plants and flowers number were performed. The content and composition of photosynthetic pigments were examined in the third leaf of tomato plants. Our results show that the tomato plants treated with Mg(NO)2and Ca(NO)2have a bigger content of the pigments but the tomato plants treated with Ba(NO)2are better developed than the control. The physiological significance of the modifications to the pigment composition induced by this treatment is discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
