Objective: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the presence of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (A. actinomycetemcomitans) and Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) in healthy and different stage of gingivitis for children aged between 9 and 12 years using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and to compare their presence in children in their healthy, mild and severe gingivitis. Method: Subgingival plaque samples were collected from 94 children and were grouped as Group A-control (healthy), Group B- mild gingivitis, Group C moderate gingivitis, and Group D sever gingivitis and were subjected to PCR assay. Results: All data were analyzed by using SPSS program (version 21 for windows 7) chi-square test at p≤0.05. A. actinomycetemcomitans was detected in 0 (0%), 4 (13.4%), 37 (92.5%) and 12 (100%) whereas P. gingivalis was detected in 0 (0%), 0 (0%), 6 (15%) and 0 (0%) samples in group A, B, C and D respectively Conclusion: There is nor A. actinomycetemcomitans or Porphyromonas gingivalis found in group A (healthy moth children). Both the microorganisms were present in group C. In group B and D only A. actinomycetemcomitans was present. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
