The article focuses on the significance of tripterygium as a medicinal herb in dermatologic therapy in the traditional Chinese medicine. Tripterygium demonstrates a significant anti-inflammatory action, including decreasing of capillary permeability, suppression of inflammatory infiltration, inhibition of inflammatory mediators, and possibly anticoagulative and antithrombotic action. It was reported that tripterygium also had a significant suppressive action on cell-mediated immunity. Several studies have demonstrated the beneficial effects of the total glycosides of tripterygium in Behcet's Disease (BD). Different preparations of tripterygium have been used in the treatment of a wide variety of skin diseases. |
