In the present scenario, aquaculture industry is growing rapidly and extensively to meet the demand and to promise maximum profit. In some places due to less availability of water and land for aquaculture, intensification of various practices is being carried out in culture system. This intensification of aquaculture practices may cause certain diseases, deterioration of water quality and lead to environment degradation. Therefore to minimize these problems associated in aquaculture; biofloc technology has an emerging technique as a sustainable substitute for intensification. It is a zero water exchange system widely used as a health management and to minimize the impact of environment deterioration. Recently, probiotics administration in biofloc system can improve the health status of culture animal in a better way. Their cumulative effect improves the water quality parameters of culture water due to presence of different heterotrophic bacteria stimulating the C:N; ultimately reducing the toxic inorganic substances. This review summarized the efficacy of biofloc supplemented with probiotics on various water quality parameters of fish culture. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
