A particular pattern of cutaneous drug reaction marked by skin lesions is Fixed Drug Eruption (FDE). It is an erythematous patch that develops within hours of administration of an offending medication which recovers with residual hyperpigmentation and resurfaces after re-administering the same drug. Popular elicitors for fixed drug eruptions are tetracyclines, NSAIDs, phenytoin, sulfonamides, and antibiotics. The incident of a 28-yearold male patient who witnessed a fixed drug eruption following intravenous (IV) ceftriaxone administration is reported here. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
