Aim To compare the antiplaque efficacy of Achyranthes aspera mouthwash and Hiora mouthwash with a 0.2% chlorhexidine mouthwash. Materials and Methods After acquiring informed consent, Quigley and Hein modification of the plaque index was taken. Phase 1 Therapy was performed. Subjects were randomly divided into three groups (15 subjects in each group) and the mouthwashes were dispensed. Subjects were instructed to use mouthwash twice a day for four days. The Subjects were asked to refrain from using any mechanical or chemical plaque control other than the dispensed mouthwash for 4 days. Subjects were recalled on the fifth day to assess plaque accumulation. Results It was observed that the significance between Chlorhexidine group to Hiora and A.Aspera was statistically significant (P<0.05) but P value of comparison between Hiora to A. Aspera Group was not statistically significant. Thus Chlorhexidine had marginally better results. Summary and Conclusion Achyranthes aspera mouthwash and Hiora mouthwash are potent anti-plaque agents and can be used as natural alternatives to 0.2% Chlorhexidine mouthwash. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
