The essay analyses the in-house newspapers of the Pirelli company, «Notiziario Pirelli», «Giornale Murale» and «Collaborazione», in a period of transition, 1945-1948, which was crucial for the future of Italy's republican democracy. The newspapers distributed at their factories became platforms for a democratic debate that was an exceptional attempt to involve office and factory workers, managers and trade unionists, apolitical workers and representatives of political parties, amidst clashes and reconstruction efforts in the industrial city of Milan. These experiments in democracy were disrupted by the end of anti-Fascist unity in Italy, in the political climate of the Cold War. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
