Technologies for bringing the Semipalatinsk test site into a safe state as implemented by VNIITF jointly with the VNIIEF, Radium Institute, NIKIET, and the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan are shown. It is shown that as a result the Russian Federation, the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the United States jointly eliminated threats to the nonproliferation regime and expensive nuclear material containing sensitive information was repatriated to Russia. Compliance with national laws, regulations, and safety culture made it possible to complete the work successfully. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
