Abstrakt: The two most popular endocrinopathies that exist in clinical practice are thyroid disease and diabetes mellitus DM. In the one hand, thyroid hormones control the metabolism of carbohydrates and the activities of the pancreas; on the other, diabetes mellitus influences both the activity and the function of the thyroid gland. Higher levels of galanin were detected in patients with type2 diabetes mellitus, gestational diabetes mellitus and obesity. The study included 120 subjects divided into four groups; the first group included 30 healthy control subjects, the second group includes 30 patients diagnosed with type 2 DM, the third group included 30 patients type 2 DM with newly diagnosed hypothyroidism HpoT and the fourth group included 30 patients with type 2 DM with newly diagnosed hyperthyroidism HprT. The concentration of (fasting blood glucose FBG, Glycated hemoglobin HbA1c, C-peptide, Total cholesterol TC, Triglyceride TG, High density lipoprotein HDL, Low density lipoprotein LDL, very Low density lipoprotein VLDL, Triiodothyronin T3, Thyroxin T4, thyroid-stimulating hormone TSH and thyroid peroxidase-Ab TPO-Ab). The results show high significant differences in level of galanin between all studied groups that including diabetic patient newly hyperthyroidism, diabetic patient newly hypothyroidism, DM only and control group [(370.1±185.0), (563.0±393.5), (420.5±310.4), (217.0±140.4)], respectively. In conclusion, Galanin level considered as new predictor of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus newly hypothyroidism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
