Abstrakt: We present a model for estimating the total life of each component in a used, multi-component system through the use of fuzzy set theory and linguistic variables. The resulting component life estimates yield times at which a cost for component replacement is incurred. Through the use of a general cost model, we find the equivalent uniform annual cost (EUAC) of owning and operating the system. This cost model is shown, through an illustrative example, to be a useful tool for selecting a used system from a set of competing alternatives. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
