The first CT (a and b) was obtained prior to onset of liver failure and demonstrates a normal appearing liver. Acute liver failure is a rare but recognized complication of malabsorptive bariatric procedures. The combination of protein malnutrition and bacterial overgrowth in an already vulnerable liver may have been key pathological pathways to acute liver failure. [Extracted from the article] |
