The pedigrees of 3 patients with giant pigmented hairy naevus (GPHN) were investigated. The occurrence of multiple small pigmented naevi in members of the patients' families is reported and it is suggested that at least some cases of GPHN may be determined by an autosomal dominant gene of variable expressivity.
