A store requiring a vast inventory of low-demand books wasn't likely to endure with rising rents, and Shorey's eventually abandoned downtown for Fremont. COLUMBIA 33 I REFERENCE DESK COLUMBIA 32 I USED BOOKS TOP: Shorey's Old Book Store, circa 1895, at the northwest corner of Third Avenue and Cherry Street in downtown Seattle in a building that housed the retailer from 1891 to 1922.
