Retrosternal goiter is defined as a thyroid mass of which more than 50% is located below the thoracic inlet. It is a predominantly benign condition. Imaging methods are primary for the diagnosis, and surgical treatment - total thyroidectomy is the method of choice. The presence of several concomitant diseases is a challenge both during surgery and in the postoperative period. We present a case of a 66-year-old man with complaints of swelling in the neck, cough, tiredness, and palpitations, in which an increase in both lobes of the thyroid gland with retrosternal evolution was found. A total thyroidectomy was performed through the cervical approach. Surgical treatment in such cases is indicated and should be performed as soon as possible after diagnosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
