Abstrakt: The article focuses on the problems of confidentiality in university and college counseling centers. Everyone engaged in counseling or psychotherapy agrees that the person to whom personal or confidential material is entrusted is bound by certain definite principles of secrecy or confidentiality. The information imparted comes under the heading of the entrusted secret-information revealed under the condition that it be kept secret. This condition need not be explicitly defined, since it is understood from the nature of the relationship between counselor and client. There is in effect an implick contractual relationship which imposes the obligation of confidentiality, and the professional secret is a special and rigorous type of entrusted secret, which imposes on the counselor a serious moral and social obligation to guard it very carefully. This obligation varies with the nature of the information imparted and the effect that revealing it would have on the client.
