Abstrakt: A non-contact fiber-optic fuel level sensor for an automobile fuel tank is demonstrated. The sensor consists of a trifurcated asymmetric configuration of transmitting and receiving fibers. The Fiber-optic sensor has a linear angular range of 13°. The linear range is extended using a bevel gear arrangement to measure full-scale range of liquid in automobile tank. The sensitivity of the developed sensor is 0.1353/°. The sensor is located outside the fuel tank to avoid the flow of current in the fuel tank hence it increases the safety. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
