Abstrakt: |
The article suggests replacing the relativistic Hamiltonian of a many-electron atom (ion) with an effective operator. The matrix element of the latter with respect to the nonrelativistic wave functions in the LS-representation is equal to the matrix element of the relativistic Hamiltonian in the j-representation. The effective operator is expressed in terms of the unit tensor operators in the LS -representation. The expansion coefficients of the effective operator are expressed in terms of 3n j-coefficients and one-electron and two-electron matrix elements of the relativistic Hamiltonian.
