We do expect that carbon from tire and road wear particles is present in ambient PM, but maybe in sizes larger than PM SB 10 sb , which we did not measure in this study. Dear Editor, Our research group has recently completed a study characterizing coarse and fine ambient PM and road dust near major roads in the Greater Boston area, with several papers included in a recent specialty issue of this journal (Huang et al. [3]; Martins et al. [8]; Silva et al. [10]). The coarse and fine ambient PM samples were analyzed for both trace elements by X-Ray Fluorescence and elemental carbon (EC), organic carbon (OC), and their thermally-resolved fractions by Thermo-Optical Reflectance (TOR) (Chow et al. [1]). [Extracted from the article] |
