Abstrakt: | Background: Coronary artery disease is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Chronic periodontal disease is the most common oral disease. Bacteremia associated with periodontal disease has an impact on vascular components and connective tissues, which in turn may play role in coronary artery disease. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess correlation between severity of coronary artery disease and periodontal disease. Material and methods: Severity of coronary artery disease was assessed by calculating Gensini scores from the coronary angiograms while periodontal status was assessed clinically by using community periodontal index (CPI) and loss of attachment index (LOA) as per WHO methodology 1997 among 700 participants. Results: The average Gensini score was reported as 30.54 ± 22.84. A significant correlation (P<0.05) was found between Gensini score and CPI score 0, 2, 3 and 4. Conclusion: Weak correlation was found between severity of coronary artery disease and periodontitis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
