Need of fixture design and its optimization for production based industries.

Abstrakt: Production based industries requires minimization of cycle time of machining components with minimal errors in the dimensions. Complexity in the machining of components forged or cast for critical dimensional machining needs the best reference point due to its mounting on a flat surface will not be appreciated. The design of the fixture depends on the accuracy of the dimensions of the components to be machined and the reliability of the fixtures to be checked. Optimization of fixture before going to finalize fixture design is an important aspect. Most of the researches discussed about the optimal process in different ways for single component accuracy machining. The present paper focuses on optimal techniques in fixture design, a part of that consideration on fixture model, the need for the study of component dimensions, the researchers' sample case studies and the scope for overcoming design drawbacks. The paper also discusses about the CAD tools usage in fixture design layouts with optimal techniques. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
