Assam lemon is one of the most prominent commercial Citrus fruits in Assam. Tinsukia district of Assam is the major producer of Assam lemon in the Northeastern region of India. The collaborative team of AAU- CRS, Tinsukia and ICAR-NCIPM, New Delhi set to work under its Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) Programme and effectively disseminated its IPM technologies of Assam lemon in Dirakmukh Thapabari village of Tinsukia district. The extension activities like demonstration, training, field visit, group discussion, farmer's scientist interaction, supply of critical inputs, supply of extension materials etc were very much effective for dissemination of IPM technologies among the Assam lemon growers. The program has successfully brought down the losses due to insect pest and diseases which were the major constraints of the region. The extension activities played a significant role in understanding the IPM strategies of Assam lemon cultivation and helped in confidence building of the growers. The impact of the program was visible with the increase of production, productivity and post programme extended area of Assam lemon. The average productivity had increased up to 7614 kg/ha from 4421 kg/ha with a Benefit Cost ratio of 3.4:1. After the successful implementation of initial IPM practices in about 33 ha of land, the reported area expansion of the project had risen to about 107 ha. The success attained from the IPM interventions in the village became a role model for many Assam lemon growers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
