The geographic position of Northeast India with its captivating landscapes, climatic conditions of rivers or lakes to swift-running stream or rivulets makes it an ideal location for the existence of coldwater fishes in the region. Unfortunately, threatened coldwater fishes have declined in population because of overexploitation, destructive fishing methods, chemical toxins, and habitat fragmentation. It is highly recommended that the government and the local stakeholders adopt a more constructive technology-based approach and strengthened policies for enhancing sustainable fish production and conservation.
