Abstrakt: We thank Sioka and Fotopoulos for their commentary [[1]] on our recent publication evaluating associations between postmenopausal changes in bone microstructure/density and prior pregnancy/breastfeeding [[2]]. Besides pregnancy and breastfeeding, other variables, including age at menopause and menarche, reproductive lifespan, menstrual disturbances, and hormonal variations, can affect postmenopausal bone mineral density (BMD) [[3]]. Several recent studies applied longitudinal HR-pQCT imaging and demonstrated changes in bone microarchitecture and BMD during pregnancy [[7]], as well as persistent deficits after breastfeeding and weaning [[8]].
